Archived Allocutio (May, 2011) "Today is the 67th anniversary of my First Holy Communion, and it is also the anniversary of the death of Venerable Edel Quinn. She was ill with TB as a young person, and spent more than a year in a Sanitarium after a hemorrhage. Since her health did not improve there, she decided to sacrifice the rest of her life in the service of the Legion. Like Lazarus, she arose, and then traveled to Africa, and worked tirelessly to establish Praesidia in many countries. Read the story of her life, and also that of Alfie Lambe... The recent Beatification of Pope John Paul II, and the attempt on his life are both in our thoughts. The bullet that struck him is now in the crown of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. The beatification of Pope John Paul II has brought complaints from the intellectuals inside the church, and the usual criticism from those secular critics in the news media. Pray and do penance for these intellectuals who are so out of touch. They don’t see how the Pope reached out to young people and made a difference. Pray hard for the Church. May is Mary's month, when we bring Her flowers... Fr. Albert Bitangjol recently passed away, after a life of serving many parishes here in San Francisco. Think of this priest, who helped the Legion of Mary, and pray for vocations... Keep on the job, bringing the Gospel to the people in their homes and streets... It is great to hear of the door to door work by the Spanish praesidium in Idaho. It is sad to hear of the death of a spiritual director, and we look for new life in this spring. Pray hard for councils which have praesidia closures, and pray for the North Utah curia president’s husband who is sick. We in the Legion need to be concerned and to help them."
