Allocutio by Br. David Marten, Senatus President, given at the September 2009, San Francisco Senatus - (Also in the News Notes) Home |
Allocutio (September, 2009) This Month, since Fr. Goode could not attend Senatus, the Allocutio is by “The Servant of God, the Legionary Alfie Lambe, died at a very young age of 26. The year 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of his death. At a young age, he joined the Christian Brothers Noviate, but he had to leave because of his delicate health. Alfie found his vocation later as member of the Legion of Mary. In Dublin, the Concilium recognized his talent, and selected him as Legion Envoy to South America. He had a natural talent for quickly learning languages, and became fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. His accomplishments were phenomenal - in just less than 7 years, 1953 - 1959– he established numerous praesidia and councils in five countries in South America, with the blessing of Bishops. Many people were drawn to his kindness, enthusiasm, and humility. His life was of intense labor, prayer and sacrifice for the salvation of souls, and like Edel Quinn, he died of illness very early in life. Let us pray to him and to Edel Quinn and Frank Duff, and also pray that their works may be recognized by the Church.”
