Pope Francis, through the Sacred Penitentiary has granted the Legion of Mary members (active and auxiliary) and other members of the faithful, during the Centenary Celebrations of the Legion of Mary, a PLENARY INDULGENCE properly fulfilled under the usual conditions - performance of prescribed act, Sacramental Confession, Holy Communion, prayer for the intention of the Holy Pontiff and a firm amendment of a contrite heart and detachment from sin. Granted during the Centenary Anniversary of the Legion of Mary from September 7, 1921 - September 7, 2022.
The Prescribed Acts of the Plenary Indulgence Granted in honor of the Legion of Mary Centenary Anniversary
To receive this plenary indulgence one must be in the state of grace at the time the prescribed work is performed. This work. according to the Sacred Penitentiary could be fulfilled by one of the following:
1) Visit a Church where the Legion of Mary officially exists or any Church that has been designated by the Legion of Mary, in cases of areas or localities where the Legion of Mary is not present. You can find the list of these Churches (see the list below).
2) Participate devoutly in a Pilgrimage to some appropriate Marian Shrine, internationally (such as Guadalupe in Mexico, Fatima, etc.) or locally (such as Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara, CA , Shrine of Our Lady of Bethlehem in Carmel, CA).
*Note: During this visitation of Churches or while in Pilgrimage, the Lord’s Prayer and the Creed must be recited devoutly,
3) Attend or participate at the joyful celebrations of the Centenary Anniversary of the Legion of Mary (announcement will be made by your local Legion group for such joyful event). The aged, sick or the homebound can also receive the indulgence by ‘joining in spirit’ at these joyful celebrations by offering their prayers, sorrows or misfortunes of their lives to the mercy of God and adopting a spirit of firm amendment and a detestation of sin.
